Hay produced in South Africa are traditionally sun-dried whilst leading hay manufacturers such as Newhay and Bunny Nature are using the latest developments in technology to produce high quality feeding hay.
Newhay timothy hay has earned the well-deserved reputation as the gold standard for feeding rabbits, guinea pigs and chinchillas. After all, it’s high in fiber with the perfect ratio of nutrients for maintenance. Newhay timothy hay boasts a protein content of 12% compared to regular timothy hay (7% protein) from other producers. Timothy is also not the only grass hay on the block.
Bunny Nature meadow hay from nature conservation areas in Germany are also becoming very popular to feed small pets in South Africa because it contains a wide diversity of plants. Even the best drying method cannot significantly improve hay quality if the basis is not right.

Pellets are a complementary addition to your rabbit, guinea pig or chinchilla's diet and can be a source of nutrition when fed correctly. Originally, pellets were developed as a cheap way to feed livestock and these earlier foods tended to be high in fat content and lacked the high quality nutrition needed to support long term health and wellbeing.
However, good-quality, high-fibre pellet diets are now more widely available. They often contain a base of grass (10-15%) with additional herbs and are supplemented with vitamins and minerals. Given properly, and in the correct amounts, high-quality pellets offer a variety of vitamins and minerals that can support good health. They should be provided as part of a balanced diet.
Bunny Nature, a manufacturer in Germany, makes pellets for small animals with unique recipe that contains an even higher content of grass, plants and herbs (50-60%) that originate from your pet's natural habitat.

Did you know that pellets are not an essential food for pet rabbits and guinea pigs? Your pet can live without eating these pellets. When given in small amounts, pellets are still considered a healthy part of a balanced rabbit or guinea pig diet. It is crucial to provide your pets with plenty of high-fibre foods such as a variety of grass hays, leafy greens and vegetables.
Scientific studies have revealed that excessive amounts of pellet food may cause your rabbit or guinea pig to suffer from different health problems and to become overweight. The foundation of your pet’s diet begins with hay. They cannot get enough of it. Rabbits and guinea pigs need to eat a pile of hay as large as their body every single day.
A healthy rabbit should be slim and sleek. You should be able to feel the ribs just under the skin without a thick layer of fat. Obesity is a problem with rabbits that eat a diet too high in calories and do not get enough exercise.

These small, special animals rely on us to ensure they’re healthy and happy. As well as providing nutritious hamster food and creating a suitable hamster habitat for them to thrive in, there are some important health checks that you should carry out regularly to ensure your hamster is in the clear.
Getting to know your hamster’s normal behaviour and habits will help you be able to spot if something is not quite right. This is very important because, as the RSPCA points out: “Hamsters can become unwell and go downhill very quickly, but may often only show subtle signs of being in pain or distress, or that they are suffering, until it is very severe.”
As well as providing suitable accommodation, company of their own kind (it’s only the Syrian hamster that prefers to go it alone) and the right nutrition, there are some regular checks that you can carry out to ensure your hamster is hale and hearty. And, by doing this, you’ll also be able.. [More]

Chinchillas have dense fur. Over time, oils and moisture collect in their fur. In the wild, chinchillas have no way to clean their fur other than to roll around in volcanic ash which acts as an absorbent. You should never bathe your chinchilla in water. Doing so would remove the natural oils which protect their skin and helps them regulate their body temperature. Instead, it is best to give them a bowl or container filled with "special" dust for them to roll around in. The finer the dust, the better.
A regular dust bath is an absolute necessity for chinchillas. Taking a vigorous dust bath is one of their natural behaviors, and is how chinchillas keep their lush coats clean and healthy. Not only does this dust bath help to keep their thick fur smooth and silky, it is thought to be relaxing and fun for chinchillas.
Blue Sparkle is the best chinchilla dust you can use. This ultra-fine aluminum silicate powder contains no limestone, glass, or sand and shakes compl.. [More]

After years of research and development, NT Labs in UK is bringing out its Marine Lab range.
A spokesman said: “These liquid testing kits have been expertly developed to give marine fishkeepers easy-to-use tools to monitor water quality without compromising on accuracy or precision.
“This stylish new range includes all the essential tests you will need to maintain a thriving marine aquarium.”
The range of liquid tests includes kits for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, carbonate hardness, magnesium, calcium and phosphate.
The calcium and magnesium tests use syringe-style titrations tests for accurate results, while the carbonate hardness tests use a drop-wise titration tests.
“The others are ‘easy-to-use colourimetric tests’ in which users count drops from the reagent bottles, and compare to the colour chart on the side of the carton.

Do you know what the term “Internet of things” means? It is a concept according to which clearly identifiable objects can directly or indirectly collect, process or exchange data by means of the KNX smart electrical installation or a computer network. It also includes the increasingly popular solution for controlling and steering individual devices using mobile phone applications.
AQUAEL, keeping abreast of the times, introduces the world’s first aquarium lamp meeting these requirements, called the LEDDY SLIM LINK.
LEDDY SLIM LINK is a remotely controlled, universal LED lamp designed to illuminate open freshwater and marine aquariums. Fixed on the side edges of the tank panes, it constitutes an elegant alternative to the classic aquarium lid.
Its use allows for obtaining a unique decorative effect. Ideal for all types of aquariums. The free Aquael Aqu@rium application installed on your smartphone enables you to control the operation and parame.. [More]
