Fake MarinePure has now hit the South African aquarium market. A local online website specializing in marine aquatics describes the counterfeit product, renamed bacteria balls, to offer the following benefits: Designed for Ammonia and Nitrite Removal Primarily designed to provide deep anaerobic zones for de-nitrification in passive systems. Live rock substitute-popular among reef hobbyists as a substitute for live rock because it reduces nitrates more efficiently without harming the environment. Use in sumps, stacked in extra-large filters. Perfect for in-sump use to cultivate Bacteria This product description was copied word for word from MarinePure website. The photo for the product is a photo of genuine MarinePure product.   Over the past few years this has been a huge problem for CerMedia LLC the manufacturer of MarinePure in USA, because these fake MarinePure lookalike media that originate from China have appeared in Australia, UK, USA and many othe.. Cermedia Launches MarinePure GEMS
Posted By : Guest Filed Under : Fish | Aquarium Filters | MarinePure | Marine Aquariums | Filter Media
Cermedia has been receiving many requests for a MarinePure media designed to work in smaller aquariums. Just this month, Cermedia made an announcement to us that they are meeting this demand with a new product called, MarinePure GEMS.   Made with the same formula as their popular 1.5” SPHERES, the GEMs are approximately ¾” in diameter. GEMs will be packaged in attractive hexagonal shaped boxes containing 90 grams of media. We think the product shape and box shape look pretty cool and will stand out on aquarium store shelves. Each box contains more than 1,450 square feet (135 square meters) of accessible surface area. MarinePure GEMS are the perfect size for canister filters, hang on the back filters or nano-tank filter systems. This amount of media is good for systems up to 70 gallons (260 litres) in size. They will be the perfect solution for ammonia and nitrite elimination and most users will also see better control of nitrates with the use of this.. [More] marinepuregemsmedia.jpg

Plastic Bio-Balls Vs MarinePure
Posted By : Guest Filed Under : Tropical Aquariums | Fish | Aquarium Filters | MarinePure | Marine Aquariums
In the aquarium hobby, we often hear that Plastic Bio-Balls are “Nitrate Factories” in that their use results in high aquarium nitrate levels. Hobbyists are concerned other bio filter medias might have the same issue. In this article, we will discuss how Plastic Bio-Balls are really doing their job, although poorly (in our opinion), and how ceramic bio filter medias do not have the same problem as plastic bio filter medias. The information below will help you better understand the difference between plastic vs. non-plastic bio filter medias.   The important takeaway to understand is just because you have high nitrate levels in your fish tank, does not mean you have created a “Nitrate Factory” that you can’t get rid of. Let us help you understand why! Why Are Plastic Bio-Balls Considered “Nitrate Factories”? Complaining that Plastic Bio-Balls are “Nitrate Factories” is a little unfair to Plastic Bio-Balls. As an aq.. [More] marinepurevsbioballs.jpg

Why MarinePure Is Best Bio-Filter Media?
Posted By : Guest Filed Under : Aquatics | Tropical Aquariums | Aquarium Filters | MarinePure | Marine Aquariums | Filter Media
Every aquarium, be it a marine tank or a freshwater aquarium, or a backyard pond, works on a similar principal where the confined environment strives to achieve a chemical balance, essential to sustain the life that they host. In order to maintain that equilibrium, we use different types of filter media in our filters. No matter the environment, the most important and efficient type of filtration is biological – colonies of beneficial bacteria that break down harmful ammonia (NH3) originating from uneaten food, fish waste, and other decaying matter, into less toxic Nitrites (NO2), and later to Nitrates (NO3), in a process known as the nitrogen cycle. These bacteria occupy all surfaces in a fish tank – aquarium glass, décor, plants, and, in reef tanks, live rock. The aquarist’s goal is to provide an optimal surface on which the bacteria to grow and the best way to build healthy colonies is the use various types of biological media. CerMedi.. Choosing The Right Aquarium Filter
Posted By : Guest Filed Under : Aquatics | Aquael | Tropical Aquariums | Fish | Aquarium Filters | Marine Aquariums | MarinePure | PolyFilter | Filter Media
Choosing the correct filtration system for your aquarium is an important decision that will impact not only the type and quantity of livestock that you wish to keep, but also the amount of maintenance that the system will require. The filtration system is responsible for keeping the water clear and free of particulate matter (tiny fragments of plant material, leftover food, feces, waste products from the fish, etc.) and toxic compounds that are dangerous to the inhabitants. The strengths and weaknesses of the commonly available types of filtration will be discussed in this article, so you can make the right decision in choosing the filtration for your aquarium.   The three categories of filtration There are three types of filtration that are necessary for the health of any aquarium: Mechanical Chemical Biological Before choosing a filtration system, it is important to understand all three, and how they will benefit yo.. Filter Media Maintenance
Posted By : Guest Filed Under : Aquatics | Fish | Aquarium Filters | MarinePure | Tropical Aquariums | Marine Aquariums | Filter Media
The filter is widely considered the most important part of any fish aquarium. This fantastic piece of kit will keep your fish happy by removing toxic waste products and chemicals from the aquarium. Some filters also work to ensure that air is introduced into the water.   Without filter media inside the filter however, it will be pretty much pointless. Filter media is used to collect all of the particles and dirt that is removed from the aquarium, so that it doesn’t flow straight back into the fish tank. There are three types of filter media, mechanical, biological, and chemical. All three types can work together to ensure the smooth running of your fish tank. Over time, beneficial bacteria will grow inside your tank and inside the filtration media, helping the fish tank to stay healthy naturally. How to clean your filter media Never wash your filter media in tap water. This will strip the filter media of bacteria by polluting it with chlorine and o.. [More] filter media maintenance.jpg

Choosing Bio Filter Media
Posted By : Guest Filed Under : Aquatics | Tropical Aquariums | Fish | Aquarium Filters | MarinePure
The wide variety of biological filter materials available today can confuse almost anyone trying to find the right one for their aquarium. Every manufacturer claims their filter material is the most efficient and easiest to use. Cost considerations aside, efficiency, adaptability and ease of maintenance are the factors considered in choosing the best material. All fish tanks need at least some form of biological and mechanical filtration to maintain a healthy environment. Fish produce wastes which cannot be filtered completely using mechanical or chemical methods. Unless these wastes are removed, over time they will build up to a lethal level. In biological filtration, two types of beneficial bacteria known as "nitrofiers" grow in the tank and convert harmful wastes into something less harmful. All aquariums need to have successful biological filtration in order for the fish to remain healthy.Typically it takes about a month to establish a flourishing biolo..
