Posted By : Guest Filed Under : Aquatics | Aquael | Tropical Aquariums | Aquascaping | Marine Aquariums
This year, AQUAEL celebrated its 30th anniversary at INTERZOO 2014, which was held in Nuremberg, Germany between May 29th and June 1st, where they presented their latest innovative new products. Visitors were shown the new OXYBOOST PLUS aerators that are even quieter and more reliable than their predecessors; the tiny FZN MINI internal filters specially designed for small aquariums; the exclusive GLOSSY aquarium sets that combine unmatched stylishness with high functionality (e.g. one can easily install additional lighting units in the tank); and the power-saving LEDDY SMART aquarium sets. Great interest was also aroused by product modifications: the upgraded line of the SHRIMP SET SMART aquarium sets designed for shrimps and small fish and equipped with the energy-efficient LEDDY SMART lamp based on LED technology and the large REEFMAX XL marine aquarium set with LED lighting built into the lid. Three new nano aquariums called SHRIMP SET SMART, equipped.. [More] AQUAEL INTERZOO 2014 new products.jpg

Aquascaping With Small Nano Tanks
Posted By : Guest Filed Under : Aquatics | Aquael | Tropical Aquariums | Fish | Aquascaping
Tiny aquatic gardens are all the rage; perfect for the aquarist with limited space, or for those who simply enjoy the aesthetic of a scale-model planted layout, with all the benefits and challenges that come with it. Most people get started in the hobby with the typical 30 or 72 litre tank because these sizes are widely available as inexpensive starter kits. Those who get hooked on the hobby quickly find that this not enough, and the desire for a bigger tank sets in. For some a 112 litre tank may be enough, while others lust after a 240 or even 375 litre tank. Big tanks can be a lot of fun, and larger systems are often more stable than small ones, but big tanks are also a lot of work and are more expensive to set up, stock, and maintain. Whatever the reason, in recent years, nano tanks have become a popular alternative to explore the hobby in greater depth, particularly for those of us interested in aquatic gardening. What’s a Nano Tank, and Why B.. [More] shrimpset_nano_aquascape.jpg

New Stylish Aquael Aludekor Aquariums
Posted By : Guest Filed Under : Aquael | Aquatics | Tropical Aquariums | Fish
Aquael presents this stunning range of aquariums now in South Africa, which provide a high quality finish that is well suited to any modern environment. The Aquael Aludekor aquariums and cabinets are available in a range of sizes from 80 to 150cm. All units are supplied without filtration or heating equipment, enabling you to choose your own prefered brand. We do however recommend using the Aquael Unimax canister filters and comfortzone heaters. ALUDEKOR water tanks are made of durable glass panels of proper thickness that are bonded with special black silicone. This not only makes the tank durable and watertight but also reduces the discernibility of dirt and sediment. The lid of the water tank included in the ALUDEKOR set is made of aluminium profiles and plastic plates. The lid is decorated with veneer strips that can be selected to suite the room interior. For your convenience, with each set we include veneer strips in four colours: black, beech, wenge, and alder. Ha.. [More] ALUDEKOR TANKS.jpg

The Nano Reef Revolution
Posted By : Guest Filed Under : Aquatics | Aquael | Fish | Marine Aquariums
It's easy to see why nano reef aquariums are so popular. Who wouldn't you want a tiny portion of the ocean sitting on your desk? Especially when it costs a fraction of what larger reef systems cost. A nano reef delivers endless fascination, from the saunter of its careful invertebrates to the abrupt retreat of its bashful fish. Every alcove contains a hidden wonder. For seasoned hobbyists, a nano reef offers an exciting challenge with beautiful rewards for a home or office. If you're thinking about a nano reef, consider the following for nano reef success. Miniature Reefs In the most practical sense, all home reef aquariums are miniature reefs when compared to expansive natural reefs. However, the term "nano reef" generally refers to a miniature reef system that is typically 50 litres or less, housing corals, invertebrates, and perhaps a few fish. That's a lot of complexity in a small space. What thrives on a nano reef? Specimens characteristic of a n.. [More] nano reef1.jpg

Filter Media Maintenance
Posted By : Guest Filed Under : Aquatics | Fish | Aquarium Filters | MarinePure | Tropical Aquariums | Marine Aquariums | Filter Media
The filter is widely considered the most important part of any fish aquarium. This fantastic piece of kit will keep your fish happy by removing toxic waste products and chemicals from the aquarium. Some filters also work to ensure that air is introduced into the water.   Without filter media inside the filter however, it will be pretty much pointless. Filter media is used to collect all of the particles and dirt that is removed from the aquarium, so that it doesn’t flow straight back into the fish tank. There are three types of filter media, mechanical, biological, and chemical. All three types can work together to ensure the smooth running of your fish tank. Over time, beneficial bacteria will grow inside your tank and inside the filtration media, helping the fish tank to stay healthy naturally. How to clean your filter media Never wash your filter media in tap water. This will strip the filter media of bacteria by polluting it with chlorine and o.. [More] filter media maintenance.jpg

Avoiding Bad Ingredients In Pet Food
Posted By : Guest Filed Under : Pet Care | Nutrition | Chinchillas | Guinea Pig Food | Rabbit Food | Bird Food
Just as people are becoming increasingly aware of how many preservatives, hormones, synthetic dyes and chemicals are present in many conventional food sources, and how detrimental they can be to human health, so are they realizing that synthetic chemicals are not good for their beloved pets, either. The health craze that has been sweeping the modern world hasn’t stopped at human food. Your veterinary technician will agree: high quality pet food is worth the price. People need healthful, nutrient-rich food with plenty of vitamins and minerals and as few chemicals and “fillers” as possible for long life and an overall sense of well-being. So does your pet. High quality pet food usually costs a bit more because rather than using cheap, empty ingredients, quality pet food is packed with protein-rich nutrition, with natural rather than chemical preservation. If you can afford it, buying high quality types of pet food is altogether worth the money for the benef.. [More] organic petfood.jpg

Feeding Your Budgie (Parakeet)
Posted By : Guest Filed Under : Nutrition | Birds | Roudybush | Bird Food | Budgies
Giving your budgie the proper nutrition is important if you expect it to live for many years. Seeds were once the only food that bird enthusiasts believed were the proper way to feed their birds. But new research has proved that seed mixes don't contain enough calcium, iodine and vitamin A, and they contain too much fat, which is harmful to your budgie's health and may shorten their lifespan. Most domesticated budgies die between the age of 3 and 7, and this is often due to malnutrition. So what should the budgie be fed? The first thing is to introduce pellets to your budgie. This needs to be pellets that do not contain preservatives, artificial flavourings, or colourings such as Roudybush Daily Maintenance - Nibles. If you choose another brand, just be sure no added sugars are included inside the mix you choose. In general budgies can be picky eaters. For some reason these parrots are stubborn and it takes time to incorporate new foods into their diet. It is even mo.. [More] girlfeedingparakeet.jpg

Tips For Small Aquarium Success
Posted By : Guest Filed Under : Aquatics | Aquael | Tropical Aquariums | Marine Aquariums
Whether you're establishing your first aquarium, or expanding your hobby experience with a new niche system, small aquariums, approximately 30 litres or less, make a rewarding and relaxing project at home or in the office. A nano aquarium's compact footprint make it a perfect fit for that empty corner or bare wall, and with the advances in multi-stage filtration and compact fluorescent lighting, maintaining a thriving freshwater or marine system is easier than ever. Small-volume aquariums also demand special attention because changes in water quality, temperature, and fish stress levels become more pronounced in aquariums less than 30 litres. With patience, research, and a little extra diligence, you too can create a beautiful, healthy nano-system. Here are some tips to get started: Pick a Kit - A hobbyist's best bet is to get a foolproof aquarium kit with integrated filtration and lighting built-in. That way, every component is a perfect fit, and you'll j.. [More] nano aquarium.jpg

Keeping A Praying Mantis Pet
Posted By : Guest Filed Under : Pet Care | Mantids
Keeping a Praying Mantis as a pet is easy to do, once you learn a few things about them. The first thing you will want to find is a home for your little pet. You can keep them in a nice big vivarium, but Mantises are perfectly content in smaller enclosures with a height of approx. 2.5 times their length and about 2 times their length in width. (So a 5cm mantis would do well in a container 12.5cm tall and 10cm across.) Whatever you keep them in, they will spend most of their time hanging upside down, waiting on their prey to get close enough for them to grab them with their raptors. Your Mantis will need air, so you will need to make sure that it is ventilated, but you don't want the holes too large, or your pets’ food might escape. If you decide on a larger enclosure, you will need lots of things for your pet mantis to climb around on. You can use just about anything such as ivy, sticks, etc... Let your creativity guide you. Make sure that all of the items in your.. [More] mantis as pets.jpg
